Blue Man Group to Perform at the Boston FIRST Annual Robotics Competition

BOSTON, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Feb 07, 2008 -- The Boston FIRST (For Inspirations and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Committee today announced that Blue Man Group will make a special appearance during this year's robotics competition finals at Boston University's Agganis Arena.

Blue Man Group, the multimedia entertainment phenomenon, will be performing during the opening ceremony for the competition's Final Matches: Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 12:45pm. This special live appearance showcases the Blue Man signature music and trademark excitement, and is open to the public. Blue Man Group in Boston is best known for their wildly popular ongoing theatrical show at the Charles Playhouse that combines theatrics with music, comedy and state-of-the-art technology producing a totally unique form of entertainment.

"We are delighted that Blue Man Group will be performing at this year's competition. They recognize the importance of celebrating science and technology and are helping to inspire our younger generations," said Marc Hodosh, Chairman of Boston FIRST. "Blue Man Group's style and technique has much synergy with our high energy robotic environment and I believe this is going to be one of the most exciting competitions we've ever had."

This year's competition, 'FIRST Overdrive,' will require each team to create a robot that can effectively race around a large, oval track; while also moving gigantic inflated balls above and below obstacles and through the designated course.

The competition has built upon the triumphs of the past two years, through a successful fundraising drive and generous donations from Boston University, MIT & MIT Lincoln Laboratory, P&G Gillette, Analogic Corporation and many other supporting and respected organizations.

Numerous corporate, university, and political leaders are expected to attend. Returning judges to this year's competition include: iRobot CEO and co-founder Colin Angle and Ethernet inventor Bob Metcalfe.
