MERRY CHRISTMAS

The photo shows the famous Christmas market in front of the Cathedral in Cologne/Germany.

We wish all our readers and their families Merry Christmas and an Happy New Year.

We recently invited our major European resellers for a meeting to discuss the SolidCAM product status and our strategy for future growth. The topics covered:

  • Demonstration of version SolidCAM2008 R12
  • New training and consulting concepts to improve the skills of our resellers and users, like the SolidCAM Winter Academy
  • Case studies about new multinational accounts
SolidCAM is now involved more and more in large projects, where international accounts need to be supported in their manufacturing facilities worldwide. For us this means a challenge in two respects. First, we have to constantly increase our support capabilites, both by adding new resellers and by hiring own CAD/CAM experts. Although today´s booming economy does not facilitate to find the right people, we managed to hire additional people in the United States, Europe, India, Japan and China, where we have established two offices in Bejing and Shanghai. Secondly, large accounts attach importance on an efficient, integrated data flow. A part of that is the integration of the SolidCAM software with existing PDM or Tool Management systems. Here, we have taken a big step forward in the version SolidCAM2008 R12 by providing such integration.

Dear partners, we thank you for your trustful cooperation in the year 2007 and wish you a prosperous year 2008.

  • Successful Euromold show

  • From Dec, 5 to 8, SolidCAM exhibited at the Euromold show in Frankfurt/Germany. The unique concept of EuroMold "From Design to Prototyping to Series Production" combines the different stages of manufacturing and thus gives an excellent overview of the entire process chain. In Hall 8, SolidcAM showed the upcoming version SolidCAM2008 R12, with more than 100 new features.

Visitors were highly interested in the unified user interface for all Mill operations and the new Automatic Feature Recognition and Machining for multiple, interconnected pockets. In addition, we demonstrated new strategies for 2.5D Milling (for 3D profiles and T- slots), High-Speed Machining, 5-axis simultaneous Machining and Mill-Turn. Wolfgang Mueller, SolidCAM´s Vice President for Europe, stated: "Euromold is for us one of the most important trade shows worldwide. It not only covers manufacturing technologies like Milling, EDM and Turning, where we can offer a broad range of automation tools, but also shows complete process chains in moldmaking, rapid tooling or patternmaking, where the seamless integration of CAD and CAM is very important. This perfectly matches with our product concept, which is based on single window integration with the leading 3D design system SolidWorks".

  • SolidCAM+SolidWorks in Norway

  • SolidCAM has enlarged its presence in Scandinavia by new resellers in Norway and Sweden. Norway is now served by ProNor , the SolidWorks reseller located in Oslo. Jan-Erik Iversen, Managing Director of ProNor ( see photo ): "We watched SolidCAM for a long time and finally decided in 2007 to offer SolidCAM as integrated CAM solution to our SolidWorks customers".

He continues: "Norway has a powerful manufacturing industry, especially for ship-building and off-shore construction, which demands extremely short lead times for the manufacturing of parts. Here the single- window integration and the full associativity of CAD and CAM is a key factor to convert the SolidWorks files into real parts as fast as possible." Another area of ProNor´s activity is the partnership with RENATE, the national center in Norway founded by The Ministry of Education and Research. RENATE is purchasing up to 30,000 SolidWorks licenses for the schools in Norway. A part of these seats will be complemeted by SolidCAM, and ProNor shipped this year already the first SolidCAM seats to the schools in Sarpsborg and Bjorkelangen.
