SAMTECH to present SAMCEF for Power Lines and Substations at Cable Dynamics 2007

Liege, Belgium – December 2007 – SAMTECH, a European specialist in the development of Engineering software, announces today the presentation at Cable Dynamics 2007 in Vienna of SAMCEF for Power Lines and Substations, one more professional software product based on its generic Finite Element software SAMCEF.

SAMCEF for Power Lines and Substations (S4PL&S) is an innovative professional software product dedicated to Power Lines and Substations design and analysis including electro-dynamic and aerodynamic loading. Overhead lines and substations are subjected to many kinds of dynamic loads including wind, ice, temperature changes, short-circuit current, component failure amongst others… These physical effects can result in significant mechanical stresses with dramatic consequences such as large vibrations, loss of insulation clearances, electric arc, conductor line breaking, buckling or cascade failure of towers, excessive wear… and even black-out!

The study of such phenomena requires expert skills in terms of non-linear structure numerical computation, as well as a thorough understanding of the physical phenomena themselves. S4PL&S is the answer to industrial problems involving static, kinematical or dynamic dimensioning of overhead lines (OHL) and substations. The benefits of using this new software are numerous. Amongst those worth mentioning are the easy design and validation of overhead lines and substations, the flexibility and the efficiency in a unique user friendly environment, decreased risk of black-out as well as access to SAMTECH expert technical support.

S4PL&S integrates a modeling environment with dedicated solver modules to perform the required analyses. S4PL&S consists of:
• SAMCEF Field, the Graphical User Interface that includes dedicated functionalities pertinent to Power Lines and Substations modeling and post-processing;
• SAMCEF Mecano/Cable, the powerful implicit non-linear module of SAMCEF applied to Cable Dynamics.

Extensions through FEMWORD and FEMPAD are possible for the programming of automatic report generation. The customization of reports is available as an extended service from SAMTECH but can be done “in-house” as well. S4PL&S is also linked to BOSS quattro, SAMTECH’s optimization environment.
