PTC Windchill Selected by Changde Tobacco Machinery

PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the Product Development Company®, announced today that Changde Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd, China’s leading tobacco machinery manufacturer, has selected Windchill as its corporate standard for product data management. Windchill is PTC’s content and process management solution and Changde Tobacco will adopt the solution to manage the product development process for its product line.

To better support business growth and its product development needs, Changde Tobacco decided to evaluate its product lifecycle management (PLM) processes and supporting technology. Ultimately, Changde Tobacco wanted to reduce product research and development (R&D) cycle time and minimize duplicate design while maintaining high product quality and innovative capabilities.

The desired solution would also effectively manage product data generated from engineering and BOM, and accelerate the product availability on the market. In addition, Changde Tobacco needed a single system that would centrally manage many disparate IT systems (MCAD/CAPP/ERP) within the company, thus alleviating the data woes that have been plaguing its R&D and documentation. The solution was supposed to offer agile support to these disparate IT systems.

The implementation of Windchill will enable Changde Tobacco to tackle its data problems. The solution also supports the manufacturer’s strategic goals in product quality, availability and innovation, achieving synchronization between Changde Tobacco and its R&D, manufacturing and marketing partners. This will further enhance Changde Tobacco’s collaboration with its suppliers and clients in operational planning, strengthening its supply chain responsiveness, competitive advantages and resistance to market risks.

“Leveraging the Windchill platform, we are able to integrate different product design systems, coordinate internal process management and optimize execution while meeting various customer needs with agility,” said Yang Xinan, deputy general manager of Changde Tobacco. “PTC’s Windchill will also improve our project management. We expect it to bring our product innovation to a whole new level.”

Kenneth Honroth, sector vice president of PTC Greater China added, “As Chinese enterprises are undergoing rapid growth, a common challenge facing them is how to optimize the process of product development. The superiority of Windchill solutions will help companies like Changde Tobacco manage complicated and disparate data, cultivate collaboration and overcome business challenges.”

The successful adoption of Windchill for strategic PLM will contribute to Changde Tobacco’s data synchronization, accuracy and tracking. Windchill provides one single PDM platform for Changde Tobacco to manage documentation, product structure, approval process and change, as well as to enable the integration with CAD and ERP. As a result, the software will improve the company’s competitive advantage, refine its internal product and technology management, speed up R&D, increase productivity and boost product quality.
