Celeritive Technologies Launches VoluMill Toolpath Engine
Internet Toolpath Service now Available to all CAM Users via Subscription
CAVE CREEK, AZ, Oct 23, 2007 - Celeritive Technologies, Inc. today announced the launch of VoluMill, the first commercial internet toolpath service. VoluMill delivers dramatic productivity increases and extended cutting-tool life on the shop floor, and is available to users of any CAM system.
"We are excited to offer this revolutionary client/server toolpath service to the machining community," said Terry Sorensen, Celeritive’s president and CEO. "Since VoluMill is offered as a web service at a low monthly fee, and is not limited to any specific CAM system, any machining organization with an internet connection can immediately enjoy huge improvements in throughput and efficiency. There are no upfront costs, and virtually no training is required."
VoluMill provides the perhaps counter-intuitive combination of shorter cycle times and longer tool life by dynamically controlling the rate of material removal, eliminating sharp corners from the toolpath, and intelligently managing axial and radial depths of cut to achieve a consistent tool load. "The toolpaths typical of CAM systems force machine tools and cutting tools to operate under widely-varying conditions, often subjecting them to severe stress," said Glenn Coleman, chief product officer for Celeritive. "The consistent machining loads inherent to VoluMill toolpaths, in contrast, enable machining hardware to be utilized to its fullest potential; machining times are significantly reduced, while equipment life is significantly extended. When tools are driven properly, metal can actually be cut much faster than most people realize."
VoluMill currently generates toolpaths for 2-axis pockets, with support for an unlimited number of islands. Full 2-axis milling, including open shapes and cleanup milling, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2008, with a powerful 3-axis rough milling service to follow in the second quarter. Products are delivered on a subscription basis. All new accounts include a 15-day free trial, during which the service can be cancelled for any reason and at no cost.
A dedicated client for Mastercam® X2 is available for download now, as is an Open Source universal client that can be used with any CAM system. Dedicated clients for other systems, including GibbsCAM® and CAMWorks, are currently under development. All clients are free of charge. "Since the universal client is Open Source, anyone, including CAM software vendors or resellers, can download the source code and develop their own dedicated clients at no charge," said Dr. Evan Sherbrooke, chief technology officer for Celeritive. "All clients, regardless of their origin, access the same secure toolpath service. Improvements and upgrades to the toolpath engine are available to all users instantly and simultaneously; there is no need to wait for a new release, and there are no additional fees.”
