Manufacturing Insights Appoints Supply Chain Futurist

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—July 16, 2007— Global independent research and advisory firm Manufacturing Insights, an IDC company, known and respected for its market research offerings focused exclusively on the manufacturing industry, announced today the appointment of Simon Ellis as research program director for the Supply Chain practice. A renowned industry thought leader in Supply Chain strategies, Mr. Ellis will contribute research and analysis to assist research clients in setting the appropriate priorities for supply chain performance improvement and in selecting the optimal technologies to support those priorities.

"Simon complements our team extremely well. We are very excited to have such a tremendous asset on board," says Bob Parker, vice president of research at Manufacturing Insights. "His in-depth understanding of how an integrated intelligent supply chain increases quality and customer satisfaction as well as reduces overall cost will be of great interest to our manufacturing clients."

Simon Ellis most recently was the Supply Chain Strategy Futurist for Unilever North America, a $12 billion division of Unilever, the maker of such well-known products as Dove, Suave, Wisk, all, Q-tips and Vaseline. Simon was responsible for leading the implementation of key new technologies related to the future of the Unilever Supply Chain. Specifically, he led the North American RFID and e-Catalog teams, and was the project leader for the Data Management Organization.

Since joining Unilever in 1985, Simon worked extensively in both Sales and Finance. Previously he was with Lipton Foods in Finance and also with Lever Brothers in Finance/Logistics.

Ellis adds, "The Supply Chain across all manufacturing and retail segments holds the promise of improving service levels to customers while reducing waste. As part of a leading research team, I am looking forward to providing benchmarks, best practices, and business cases to guide companies in their journey and am truly excited to begin contributing to the organization as well as interacting with clients."

Simon Ellis will be presenting as part of a complimentary Web conference on July 31 entitled, "Trends in Supply Chain Innovation, with a Perspective from Motorola." Ellis, along with Kimberly Knickle, a research director at Manufacturing Insights, and Cathie Kozik, Corporate Vice President, Information Technology, Integrated Supply Chain, Motorola, Inc., will discuss measurable improvement in cash flow, inventory turns, revenue per employee and, most importantly, customer-service levels through supply chain innovation.
