Explore Oakville Sees Continued Growth in Web Activity with OnPoint™

RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO, CANADA and OAKVILLE, ONTARIO – April 25, 2007 – Orion Technology Inc. is proud to report Town of Oakville’s continued growth with Explore Oakville, the town’s interactive map system.

To better service Town of Oakville residents, the GIS Services group of the Information Systems and Solutions Department recently implemented a Transit tab. By simply enabling the GIS based Transit System Map, residents now have access to route information and detailed bus schedules for Oakville. The appropriate detailed bus schedule is provided via a direct link to the OakvilleTransit.ca schedule page once the end user has chosen a route to view more information.

To help end users navigate even more comfortably, video tutorials are available for those who are less tech-savvy. The growth of Explore Oakville web activity is continuing over the years. Web hits have grown from 15 million hits in 2005, to 17 million in 2006 and a projected 25 million hits in 2007. The result is most encouraging to the GIS staff at Town of Oakville.

Future projects planned by the GIS group will continue to integrate their mapping system in even more business services.

"We noticed a large increase in week 5 of 2007 after we implemented the Transit Map Tab. Since week 5 of 2007 Explore Oakville has received around 530,000 hits per week consistently in February and March. I feel confident that we will see more hits as we have many new items in the works. It is amazing to look back at some of the early hits we received on Explore Oakville. It used to take us a week to get 60,000 hits while it now takes us a half day to reach 60,000 hits. That is explosive growth," commented Steve Czajka, the GIS manager from Town of Oakville.

”Explore Oakville has provided a great service to residents and visitors to Oakville. The significant increase in number of people using Explore Oakville is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of Oakville’s GIS Department that is always proactively seeking new ways of enhancing services they provide to their constituents, while helping reduce cost of providing such services – every few hits on Explore Oakville can be equated to answering one less telephone call requesting information” said Shafik Jiwani, Chief Operating Officer, Orion Technology Inc.
