Wallingford Software releases Version 8.0 of InfoWorks

March 08, 2007 -- Wallingford Software announces today the release of Version 8.0 of InfoWorks, the leading software solution for modeling, infrastructure planning and operational management in the water, wastewater and river management sectors. The launch is in line with Wallingford Software’s commitment to issue two major software releases each year, offering users new functions, time-saving features, performance advances and enhanced presentation of information across the whole InfoWorks family - InfoWorks CS for wastewater management and sewerage provision, WS for water distribution and supply and RS for river, channel and floodplain flows.

Important new features in this major release of InfoWorks WS include the use of area-based demands, enabling demand to be defined by land use, instead of only at properties. This allows users to specify values for networks that have no consumption data available. Another development is a time saving feature that is ideal for water quality simulations that take a long time to stabilize. Runs can now be initialized using previously stored results. There is also a new feature to group objects into component sets and aggregate the results, such as cumulative flow through a group of pumping stations. Also new is a third method of fire flow capacity checking. Among more than thirty other additions in InfoWorks WS Version 8.0 is the simulation of the consequences of a failed pipe.

A powerful new capability in InfoWorks CS is snow melt modeling, which has been introduced in response to requests from users, particularly in Canada and the USA. The model incorporates factors such as the initial snow conditions, rainfall, temperature and wind and is derived from the approach used in SWMM. The new InfoWorks CS release also features a number of usability enhancements as well as a redesign of the method by which missing data values are inferred, giving greater flexibility than in previous versions.

Changes to InfoWorks RS include improvements to the way results are written, bringing faster simulations and more efficient disk usage. Other innovations include enhancements to the engineering validation rules and time saving features such as the automatic calculation of floodplain section separation distances. There is also a new overview display, which provides a comprehensive summary of all the objects in the entire network or a selected area.

Among the features that are common to InfoWorks CS, WS and RS is the ability to plot data using scatter graphs, to help correlate results or identify rogue values. The new versions now support the export of data to XML files and feature enhanced security options, including the ability to ensure that only database owners can save changes to global settings.

“We are always looking for further ways to help our customers,” said Wallingford Software Sales Director Paul Banfield. “Our rigorous twice-yearly release schedule enables us to meet their latest needs, including responding to requests for new functions so that users can apply InfoWorks to an even wider range of situations. Specialist functions such as snow melt calculations and the new method of fire flow checking will provide invaluable tools for particular groups of users, while other enhancements offer quicker ways of carrying out everyday tasks, easier access to information, greater flexibility and better network security.”
