15 February 2007

Architects and engineers BDP, together with cost consultant Cyril Sweett are appointed to develop design proposals for the reordering and refurbishment of the Grade II Listed, 1955 - 1960 Central Library. in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Designed and handsomely detailed in the classical tradition by the prominent civic architect, E Vincent Harris the Library is adjacent to the later, Sir Basil Spence designed, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Town Hall.

The proposals for the Central Library, commissioned by RBKC Family and Children’s Services, envisage the sensitive yet creative adaptation of the listed building to deliver the modern library service outlined in the borough’s Library Strategy.
