CFD technology Helps Develop Ultra-Efficient Oil And Water Pumps

CD-adapco, the leading global supplier of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and solutions to the automotive industry, today announced that German pump manufacturer ENTEC Beez-Lademann GbR has used CD-adapco's industry standard STAR-CD software extensively in the design of their innovative PSZ oil pumps.

ENTEC uses STAR-CD to gain insight into their pump designs, from the very earliest stages of the development process, allowing design-optimization to commence long before the first physical prototypes are built.

"Many people in the industry told us that we wouldn't be able to simulate the complex motion of our PSZ oil-pump with CFD. Using STAR-CD we have proved them wrong", said ENTEC's Dr Ing Thomas Krüger. "The insight we have gained through the application of CFD technology has helped us to develop better oil and water pumps, more rapidly than ever before."

Unlike traditional rotary designs, the PSZ oil-pump employs a revolutionary adjustable pendulum slidegate mechanism. The flow from the PSZ pump is precisely regulated by the oil pressure, allowing it to supply exactly the quantity of oil necessary for a given operating condition. By delivering only the oil required, PSZ pumps are extremely energy efficient compared to traditional designs.
