Catalog Data Solutions Configurator Implemented By Emerson Power Transmission

CDS configurator with Visual Constraint Feedback™ applied to a second Emerson product line

San Jose, CA, November 28, 2006, Catalog Data Solutions (CDS), a leading provider of online product selection tools for industrial suppliers and distributors, today announced that Emerson Power Transmission has extended adoption of CDS Configurators (with patent-pending Visual Constraint Feedback™) for online configuring and 3D CAD model delivery of the Browning® Series 7000 gearmotors and reducers.  This implementation adds to the existing Emerson Power Transmission use of the CDS configurator technology for the CbN 3000 product range.

The Series 7000 can be ordered and built in more than a million possible ways of which some sixty thousand different dimensional configurations are available. It’s naturally prohibitively expensive to build and stock sixty thousand CAD model variations.  “We wanted an ‘expert system’ that integrates deep knowledge of the product and makes an advanced user experience readily available, online 24X7, to the designer for selecting and ordering our complex product 3D CAD models ,” said Marc Macaluso, eBusiness Manager for Emerson Power Transmission.  “We chose CDS for rapid delivery, price competitiveness and for the ‘wow factor’ of its Visual Constraint Feedback™ technology.”

“In a complex product, users usually don’t know the constraints and they almost certainly don’t know the interdependence of those constraints (i.e. if you select X you are giving up option Y in selection Z).  The Visual Constraint Feedback™ makes you aware of what effects any selection has on future choices,” said John Major, CEO of Catalog Data Solutions.  Marc Macaluso added, “Substance is vital but a high impact GUI; creating strong customer perception is also important for successful adoption.”

Catalog Data Solutions helps industrial manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors grow sales and strengthen customer loyalty through interactive online catalogs, ecommerce, 3D CAD model delivery and product configurator solutions.  Studies show that over 90% of designers and engineers now use the Internet to locate components for their new designs.  Interactive online configuration of even the most complex or parametric engineering products are easily created with Catalog Data Solutions patent-pending technology.  For interactive ease of use, ease of setup, 2D or 3D graphics and on screen visibility of interdependent selections or exclusions nothing betters a CDS configurator.
