The mill/turn module from hyperMILL will see its world premiere at EuroMold 2006. This CAM software now allows turning movement - another building block in the sophisticated system of functions and machining strategies that make it possible to manufacture complex geometries efficiently in a single clamping position.
EuroMold is the highlight of the trade fair calendar at the end of the year. OPEN MIND Technologies AG ( www.openmind-tech.com) has prepared itself accordingly and is presenting a whole range of innovations, starting with the debut of the mill/turn module, which is fully integrated into hyperMILL. On top of that comes the tremendous advancements in tyre, impeller/blisk and turbine blade packages, as well as the application jobMANAGER for efficiently administering hyperMILL jobs.
Customers often ask how the hyperMILL feature technology can be best utilised. Using a tyre mould as an example, visitors can see a detailed demonstration of how intelligent functions such as ‘user-defined features' are employed to significantly reduce programming complexity. To do this means not shying away from carrying out a practical test. This is why the OPEN MIND stand in hall 6, C102, will feature the live machining of a transporters tyre profile.
Premiere: hyperMILL millTURN
The first version of the mill/turn module will offer the following machining strategies: turn roughing, turn finishing, facing, groove roughing, groove finishing, threading, centre drilling and centre threading. The ‘turn roughing' cycle refers to the roughing of any turning stock. Likewise, turn finishing is always applied to the current stock. In general, it is possible to narrow down machining areas very exactly by using boundaries. Thanks to its seamless integration into hyperMILL, stock tracking, the tool database and collision control can all be employed together with all turning and milling operations. They are output by a postprocessor in an NC program.
Tyre package optimisation
Thanks to the high-performance 5-axis machining strategies, intelligent CAM functions and the sophisticated systematics, positive and negative tyre forms can be programmed very efficiently with hyperMILL. The newly integrated automated functions ensure an even higher level of comfort and significant time savings for the generation of the NC programs. Program groups are automatically copied to the right position based on the tyre clock. A new feature also allows the top and bottom sides of a mould to infer the programming from one another. This means only one half of the mould needs to be programmed.
New strategies for turbine blades and impellers/blisks
The turbine blade package allows the full machining of the shroud, blade and hub. The range of machining cycles has been extended to include a further strategy, which allows the rest material areas and the variable radii between the turbine blade and the hub or shroud to be machined in optimal quality.
An example of the improvements in the impeller/blisk package is the enhanced collision avoidance, which also calculates the movement perpendicular to the CAMBER line, a middle curve between two blades. In this way, space in afforded for the use of thicker and hence more robust tools in particularly narrow areas.
hyper MILL jobMANAGER
Besides providing faster programming and machining of parts, a rational workflow and a sophisticated data management system also help save time. With hyperMILL jobMANAGER, OPEN MIND Technologies AG is offering a client/server system with which hyperMILL data is stored securely and administered in a structured way from job preparation all the way to the shop floor. jobMANAGER is an efficient tool in project and workflow management that greatly aids process controlling and makes jobs more transparent.
Current CAD integrations
In addition to CAD integrations of hyperMILL in hyperCAD® and thinkdesign®, hyperMILL V9.5 now includes integrations for Pro/ENGINEER® WildfireTM and Autodesk® Inventor. This means that users of these solutions can now utilise the new functions that are available including fully automated collision control, selectable axes for collision avoidance, 5-axis fixed tool inclination for rest material machining, optimised collision checking for special tools and more. The integrated hyperMILL in Autodesk® Inventor was recently certified for Autodesk® Inventor 11.
