Camarillo, Calif.—Nov. 15, 2006—CAM Software developer, DP Technology, recently presented its moldmaking capabilities at the Mori Seiki Chicago Technical Center. As a participant in the Precision Moldmaking Technology Conference held by Mori Seiki in late October, DP demonstrated ESPRIT Mold in a benchmark comparison against a leading Japanese supplier of 3D CAM programming.
Evaluations were conducted against two parts. The first part, a forging die, was cut on a Mori Seiki NV6000 using Sandvik cutting tools, four roughing tools and two finishing tools. The second, a phone mold was machined on a Mori Seiki NVD4000 fitted with OSG cutting tools, also using four roughing tools and two finishing tools. These parts were both machined with a 20K spindle. The benchmark results below reflect the actual cut times.
Cutting Time on the Mori Seiki machine
ESPRIT Mold Competitor
Phone mold 4 hours 15 minutes 6 hours 3 minutes
Forging die 7 hours 40 minutes 14 hours 40 minutes
The cycle times for parts programmed by ESPRIT were significantly shorter, ranging from approximately 40% to 100% quicker. At the same time, surface finishes were visibly superior on both the parts produced from the ESPRIT program. Surface finish quality was judged by Mori Seiki representatives and conference attendees. These final parts programmed by ESPRIT were selected for a display demonstrating the capability of the Mori Seiki machines on which they were cut.
ESPRIT Mold is claimed to produce better machining results in a significantly shorter period of time than other 3D CAM systems. This independent benchmark against the best Japan has to offer in 3D CAM systems is a clear demonstration proving this claim.
