Arena Solutions Releases New Edition Of Its PLM On-Demand Solution

FOSTER CITY, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Oct 24, 2006 -- Arena Solutions, the leading provider of on-demand product lifecycle management solutions for manufacturing companies, today announced the availability of Arena PLM Fall '06. The latest release of Arena's award-winning PLM application features new, integrated value-added services that enrich product data with dynamic reference content, improve bill of materials (BOM) accuracy and simplify collaboration across the outsourced supply chain. By integrating with Avnet Prómiere's dynamic content and working with Skype's software, Arena enables new enterprise mash-up services, which are further evidence of the unique value and offerings that Arena PLM's software-as-a-service model uniquely delivers.

Arena PLM Fall '06 enhancements include:

Visibility into Real-time Reference Data from Avnet Prómiere and IHS

With Fall '06, Arena Solutions has added a new value-added service into its PLM application that enables manufacturers to easily and intuitively integrate dynamic content from Avnet (NYSE: AVT) Prómiere directly into their Arena PLM solution through a point and click interface. Avnet Prómiere offers the most accurate and complete database of electronic component content in the industry through an existing content reseller relationship with IHS (NYSE: IHS), the leading provider of critical technical information and decision support tools for a broad range of industries. The content available from Avnet Prómiere includes both purchasability data from electronic component distribution giant Avnet Electronics Marketing and parametric and analytical data, along with documentation from IHS. The combined content database consists of rich data for over 19 million unique electronic components including, but not limited to, critical end-of-lifecycle data, Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and environmental regulation information, product change notifications and part datasheets.

For the first time manufacturers can evaluate and integrate Avnet reference content within the context of their BOM in real-time, significantly improving the critical BOM scrubbing process. BOM scrubbing is the process of validating, cleansing, analyzing, and replacing data in your bill of materials to ensure that product data is accurate throughout the product lifecycle. By instantly being able to access the Avnet Prómiere database from within Arena PLM, manufacturers can improve item selection and reduce component duplication, determine and eliminate non-compliant components in new product design, identify environmental compliance and supply chain issues early -- before they impact manufacturing, and then extend that visibility to the supply chain to minimize sourcing errors. In addition, by being able to analyze components reference data in real-time manufacturers can gain early visibility into critical end-of-life data, and avoid using obsolete or near end-of-life parts saving companies innumerable hours and valuable dollars.

"A typical bill of materials can include thousands of components," said Michael Topolovac, CEO Arena Solutions. "If just one of those components is using outdated information, it can significantly impact product development. Now take that complexity and overlay it with an outsourced supply chain, where partners depend on having accurate data and you have a phenomenally bigger problem. With our latest release, Avnet and Arena are empowering customers to quickly identify data problems, improve data accuracy and proactively notify suppliers of any engineering change orders before it impacts their business."

Voice and Text Messaging using Skype Software

Arena PLM Fall '06 uses Skype Software to enable customers to instantly call and text chat with their co-workers, suppliers and partners within the context of their PLM environment. This value-added service enhances communications within Arena PLM, by enabling users to detect the on-line presence of specific product teams, and then instantly engage them in a conference call, text chat, or send group e-mail. In addition, manufacturers can instantly save chat transcripts associated with a product record for improved reporting, and more easily invite suppliers to participate in collaborative change requests. The new integrated service enables the Arena PLM community to significantly increase productivity and collaborate more effectively with their global supply chain.

"We are committed to simplifying and empowering more effective collaboration between manufacturers and their global suppliers," said Michael Topolovac, CEO Arena Solutions. "With our latest release, we are raising the bar on user productivity and delivering our customers unique, vale-added services that are only possible through a software-as-a-service model."

Because Arena PLM is delivered on-demand, these feature and interface improvements are instantly available to all users. Manufacturers can focus 100% of their efforts on product innovation, not on installing upgrades or maintaining IT infrastructure.
