David Prawel to Keynote Boeing's Product Data Exchange Conference

LOVELAND, COLO. October 2, 2006—3D software industry expert, speaker and author David Prawel will be keynote speaker at Boeing’s Ninth Annual Product Data Exchange Conference, to be held October 24-26, 2006 in Mesa, Arizona. The theme of this year’s conference is migrating legacy CAD data. Topics presented will include quality requirements and validation, securing product data assets, managing PMI data, multi-CAD interoperability, light-weight 3D formats, product graphics management, and reuse of 3D CAD assets in downstream applications.

Today’s airspace and defense product lifecycles and their associated product data typically span many generations of technology evolution. Manufacturers, who are required to maintain these products and data for many decades, need to maximize design reuse and minimize the impact of changing technology and environment. Formats, networks, tools, solutions – even fundamental computing environments will all change.

Prawel’s presentation, Managing Legacy Data: Of fossils, Fortunes & Fool’s Gold, will discuss the difficult challenges of managing legacy data, avoiding the perils and pitfalls of getting it wrong, and prospering from getting it right. He will discuss critical high-level considerations and provide perspectives on pro/con assessment in defining a legacy data management strategy.

Terry McGowan, the Boeing Product Data Exchange Conference Chair explains, “As aerospace and defense companies struggle with the complex issues involved in managing legacy data, it is extremely important to make sure we’re keeping the goals, risks and paybacks clearly in front of us. We invited Mr. Prawel’s presentation to help us maintain a broad perspective on the key issues and solutions in this area. His expertise in 3D software and interoperability will be a welcome addition to our event. And, he’s an excellent, insightful speaker.”
