The company announced late 2005 that it will relocate to the greater Charlotte area to take advantage of the proximity to customers and suppliers, the favorable business climate, significant investment and tax benefits, opportunity to attract and retain top talent and the sustained lower cost of doing business that South Carolina provides. A new state-of-the-art facility that will include a rapid manufacturing center is being built and is expected to be fully operational by December 2006. Selected operation began already in January in a temporary facility in Rock Hill and with that came the need for new staff and resources as the company identified over 100 open positions in all departments and functions.
"Our future success depends primarily on our ability to attract, train, retain and develop the right people within our organization," said Abe Reichental, 3D Systems' president and chief executive officer. "We believe that 3D Systems offers a very unique employment value proposition. We are creating an open, friendly and inviting work environment within our state-of-the-art headquarters facility that is being constructed at the Waterford Industrial Park. Most importantly, we offer prospective employees the opportunity to join a company that is founded and grounded on a strong customer centric culture, clear priorities, sensible guiding principles and ethical values."
"To support our recruiting efforts and ensure that we communicate the company's goals, culture, and priorities while recruiting the right team mates for our new, expanded 3D team, we created a cross-functional interviewing process that would require each candidate to be interviewed by at least 4 current 3D Systems employees from different areas," added Abe.
In addition to traditional recruiting efforts, such as advertising and recruiting agencies, 3D Systems hosted a career fair in Rock Hill to introduce, promote and communicate the company, its products and technologies, as well as the opportunities and potentials for interested candidates. Approximately 1,100 potential candidates came to the March career fair and went through initial screening and interviews, and many others passed through the showroom to learn more about the company. The recruiting team followed up with visits to several university career fairs, including Winthrop University, York Tech and Georgia Tech.
"3D Systems is the kind of forward-looking company every community wants. We are extremely pleased that 3D Systems is relocating to Rock Hill and is building its new headquarters in Waterford Business Park. The career fair was a wonderful opportunity for those with 21st century skills to learn about the kinds of high-tech positions available at 3D Systems," said Dennis Merrell, president of York Technical College.
"Customer Service was the first department to completely staff the department and relocate its operations to the Rock Hill office, an extraordinary accomplishment for the hiring manager and Human Resources department. A combination of skillful scheduling and cross-functional cooperation was required to manage and execute the enormous number of interviews being conducted on a weekly basis. Within a matter of months other departments filled their positions and the Rock Hill office staff grew from 15 employees at the end of January, to the 100th recruited employee today," continued Abe.
"Because we know that we derive significant competitive advantage from our ability to attract, cultivate and nurture a capable team of energized, diverse and talented individuals committed to doing their jobs a little better every day, we are dedicated to building, over time, a strong talent bench of long-distance runners within the organization. We strive to build a team of leaders that will provide the foundation and fuel for accelerated and sustained growth and the enthusiasm and willingness to come back for more," continued Reichental.
Each department has succeeded in bringing talented and motivated professionals from diverse backgrounds to be part of our bright and promising business. From experienced and dedicated customer service representatives, to innovative software engineers, 3D Systems has amassed an all-star cast of "can-do" professionals to meet the opportunities of our growing company.
"We want to become an 'employer-of-choice' in the greater Charlotte area, and this is yet another significant step towards aligning our organization to ensure we succeed in creating a performance and ethical culture, continue to develop people and careers, succeed in expanding the range of customer services . . . and significantly improve our customer's bottom line," concluded Reichental.
