Conference To Showcase Latest Research And Technology In Aviation And Aeronautic Welding

MIAMI—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 27, 2006— The American Welding Society (AWS), the world's largest organization dedicated to advancing the science, technology and application of welding, will be showcasing the latest research and practical applications of welding in the aircraft and aerospace industry at the AWS Welding in Aircraft and Aerospace Conference taking place in Dayton, Ohio, on September 19, 2006.

The two-day conference will feature leading experts from academic institutions and organizations around the world who will discuss the latest developments in aircraft and space technology. Three technologies in particular are leading the way: friction stir welding, the fiber laser, and additive manufacture. Attendees will learn about these emerging welding technologies and other new applications, such as the latest methods for joining aluminum in fuselage and wing structures and new processes in welding engine parts and other high-performance components. Airframe designers, suppliers, researchers, educators, and administrators involved in aircraft procurement and construction will discuss today's hottest issues, developments and trends that are reshaping welding in the aircraft and aerospace industry.

"There is no doubt that the importance of welding in the military, commercial and general aircraft and aerospace industries is escalating to new levels," said Robert Irving, conference chair. "Aircraft and aerospace professionals and experts from as far away as Germany will gather at the conference to discuss welding research and technology that are revolutionizing these critical industries. It is imperative for industry members to stay informed of progressive technologies and practical applications in order to remain competitive in the increasingly dynamic aircraft and aerospace market."

Conference registration is $550 for AWS members, $680 for nonmembers. Registration includes all conference sessions, two continental breakfasts, two lunches, and refreshment breaks. Nonmembers receive a two-year complimentary AWS membership with registration.
