Boeing Chairman & CEO Elected USCBC Chair

WASHINGTON, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The US-China Business Council (USCBC) today announced the election of W. James McNerney, Jr., chairman, president and CEO of The Boeing Company, as the USCBC's chair, as well as the election of other officers and directors.

McNerney leads the Chicago-based, $54.8 billion aerospace company. Boeing is the United States' largest exporter. The company's relationship with China has continued to grow since the early 1970s.

"The US-China Business Council has been the leading organization assisting American companies doing business with China for 33 years," said McNerney, whose own professional experience with China includes a period from 1992 to 1995, when he served in-region as senior vice president, Asia Pacific, for General Electric. "I am pleased to lead an organization that works so effectively to eliminate barriers and build opportunities in China."

John Frisbie, president of the USCBC, also announced the following elected officers:

      * As vice chairs, Hon. Barbara Hackman Franklin, president and CEO,
        Barbara Franklin Enterprises and former Secretary of Commerce; Andrew
        N. Liveris, president, CEO and chairman, The Dow Chemical Company; and
        Edward L. Monser, chief operating officer, Emerson;
      * As secretary-treasurer, Edgar G. Hotard, chairman, Monitor Group
        (China); and
      * As counsel, Andrew W. Shoyer, partner, Sidley Austin LLP

    The USCBC also today welcomed five new board members:

      * Joseph A. Gilmour, president and CEO, New York Life International,
        LLC;
      * William R. Rhodes, chairman and CEO, Citibank N.A.;
      * Patrick T. Stokes, president and CEO, Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc.;
      * Keith E. Williams, president and CEO, Underwriters Laboratories Inc.;
        and
      * Gregory Q. Brown, Executive Vice President, Motorola, Inc.

McNerney succeeds Mike Eskew, chairman and CEO of UPS, as USCBC chair.
