Pro/ENGINEER Users Experience Workflow Gains With 3Dconnexion SpacePilot

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 5, 2006— 3Dconnexion, a Logitech company, today announced enhanced integration of its award-winning SpacePilot(TM) navigation device (also known as a 3D motion controller) with Pro/ENGINEER, the flagship product of design software leader PTC, which provides product lifecycle management solutions to more than 40,000 companies worldwide. This advancement in 3Dconnexion's adaptive sensing technology will help Pro/ENGINEER customers who use a SpacePilot navigator realize significant gains in productivity, ergonomics, and enjoyment of the design process.

An intelligent navigation input device for visual computing, the SpacePilot provides CAD professionals with improvements in the way they work with Pro/ENGINEER's 3D environments and modes, including Assembly, Part, and others. As the user transitions from mode to mode, the SpacePilot automatically detects the mode and updates its function buttons with available Pro/ENGINEER commands, which are displayed on the LCD screen. The SpacePilot also may be customized with any Pro/ENGINEER MapKeys that are mapped to the SpacePilot's buttons.

Unlike those who work with just a mouse and keyboard, product designers who use a SpacePilot can pan, zoom, and rotate their 3D models while simultaneously editing and annotating with the mouse. The advanced sensing and adapting mechanisms, combined with other SpacePilot functions, such as the "quick view" commands Top, Right, Left, Front, and Iso (executed at the touch of a button), enhance workflow and make interaction with Pro/ENGINEER software faster, easier, and more fun.

"There is so much intelligence built into the SpacePilot. It's an amazing tool and I cannot live without it," said Eric Mills, product designer for Kelly Aerospace. "The enhanced integration between the SpacePilot and Pro/ENGINEER has made my life easier and has helped boost our design productivity -- I can rotate my model screen view while making exploded views of my assemblies, something you cannot do with mouse alone. Also, it is really nice to add MapKeys to the configuration buttons. All of this has surely translated into time and cost savings for the company."

The Mid-Atlantic Pro/User Group's Treasurer, Milt Cochran of Cochran Consulting, Inc., concurs: "For Pro/E users, this is fantastic news. I would not use Pro/E without my SpacePilot. I really appreciate the program-sensing advantages when switching between modes of Wildfire 2 and Wildfire 3. Pro/E users simply have to try it."

The new SpacePilot capabilities are available for Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire version 2.0 and higher. SpacePilot software for Pro/ENGINEER is included in 3Dconnexion's software package, 3DxSoftware for Windows, available for immediate free download at
