Lattice Technology Honored with two Awards
New ‘XVL Studio Pro’ recognized for ‘Excellence’

TOKYO April 18, 2006 -- Lattice Technology, developers of the ultra-compressed 3D format XVL and related 3D Publishing applications, today announced the company’s two recent awards from the 18th Annual Resona Foundation Excellence in Technology Awards. Lattice won the awards for it’s latest software innovations, the latest XVL compression format (see and the XVL Studio Pro Application.

Lattice’s upgraded XVL technology delivers the industry’s highest-performance products for 3D publishing, 3D data communication and sharing, and also delivers super-fast 3D model viewing and data handling for large assemblies. XVL builds from the very-high-compression already available with the original XVL and reduces by ~70% the memory consumption needed while viewing large data-intensive 3D assemblies. It has also decreased viewing times about 50%. The result is that XVL products can handle 3D CAD data files that are larger than 10 Gbytes in size as nimbly and quickly as much smaller assemblies. Using XVL Studio Pro, very large 3D assemblies can be handled in digital design review sessions and shared globally. This kind of improvement provides massive productivity increases for digitally-aware manufacturers.

Lattice Technology won recognition for ‘Excellence’, a ranking given to only 2 software companies of 357 applicant companies. In addition, Lattice Technology was awarded the ‘Technical Management’ award, one of only 3 companies out of 357 recognized for new technology, new product development and stable management.

The event, which was sponsored by the Resona Foundation for Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion and the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun Newspaper group.

The award marks the second time Lattice Technology has won the highest honor in this annual event. Lattice’s XVL Kernel technology took the ‘Excellence’ honor in 2000.

Traditionally in design review within the manufacturing industry, individual parts and sub-assemblies are visually checked using drawings, but it has not normally been possible to holistically consider the whole model at once due to the large size of CAD-generated 3D data. This narrow view often leads to oversights of problem parts and design change requests back to the design team from a later process team. The result is longer development lead times especially if these problem parts are not resolved prior to the manufacture stage.

With XVL Studio Pro, interference and clearance checking of an entire large-scale assembly, such as an automobile, has now become possible. A list of all part interferences and the amount of interference is created so that any problems are made immediately apparent with 3D and 2D graphical displays. Design reviewers are alerted to problems, can take real-time measurements as necessary and their efficiency is further increased by the offset function, which gives a thickness to parts, such as the bodywork of the car. In summary, for any industrial application dealing with large-scale data, using XVL Studio Pro can improve design quality and shorten lead times.
