The Product Lifecycle Management Interest Group (PLMIG) announced results of the PLM Benefits Workshop held on March 21-22, 2006 in London, England. This was the first Workshop in the Launch Phase of the PLM Benefits Reference Model (BRM) Project, which is being driven forward by a Group of Founder Members, representing the different constituencies of the world of PLM.
In the Launch Phase of the Project, the PLMIG is jointly organising a series of 2-day workshops with the Founder Members. The London Workshop, the first in the series, was organized with the support of UGS (
www.ugs.com), one of the Founder Members of the Project.
Participants from user, vendor and academic organisations attended the Workshop.
The main Deliverables of the Workshop were:
- an increased understanding of PLM benefits
- a draft plan for project activities in 2006 and 2007
- an initial strawman for the Model. This can be used by the participants in their own organizations, and will save time when identifying the benefits in each new PLM situation, make it easier to communicate about PLM, and provide a rigorous basis for management decisions about PLM investments.
The next Workshop in the series will be held 6-7 April, 2006 at Newton, MA, USA. It is being organised with PTC (
www.ptc.com), another Founder Member of the Project. Participation is open to members and non-members of the PLMIG.
