JEA is the eighth largest community-owned electric utility in America, providing electricity, water and sewer services to more than 877,000 accounts in northeast Florida. The JEA electric system currently serves more than 390,000 customers in Jacksonville and parts of three adjacent counties. JEA's water system serves more than 279,000 water customers and 208,000 sewer customers, or more than 80 percent of all water and sewer utility customers in their service area.
JEA's water and sewer network had been mapped on an ESRI platform since 2001, and JEA had recently converted their electric and landbase data to ESRI format as well. With hundreds of customer care consultants working daily to maintain customer satisfaction, and hundreds of other employees dedicated to keeping the business running smoothly, JEA identified a need to serve centrally linked and controlled GIS data to the masses. JEA's lead contractor, POWER Engineers, identified Orion Technology and their OnPoint web-GIS solution to provide this service.
POWER Engineers is recognized internationally for providing innovative, state-of-the-art consulting solutions in a number of markets including power transmission and distribution. POWER also offers custom GIS solutions for the utilities, local government and telecommunications markets. They chose Orion's out-of-the-box OnPoint web-GIS product for its ease of use and configuration. JEA is using their web-GIS solution company-wide to increase customer satisfaction by reducing response time.
"We are really excited to be a part of the team for the JEA project." stated Faizal Hasham, Director of Sales and Marketing for Orion Technology. "POWER Engineers' expertise and technical skills combined with the functionality and scalability of OnPoint has provided the basis for the success of this project."
Response to Web-GIS
"We started with a custom solution and found that OnPoint did most if not all of what we were looking for with an out-of-the-box software. We have been thoroughly impressed with Orion's support staff and the software speaks for itself." said John Terry, POWER's Project Manager.
