McLaren Software Simplifies Global-Engineering Projects

HOUSTON—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Jan. 23, 2006— McLaren Software, a leading independent software vendor specializing in applications for engineering process and content management, offered a preview of Version 3.5 of its flagship application suite, Enterprise Engineer(TM). The special preview was offered today to attendees of the daratechPLANT 2006 Conference in Houston, Texas. The company officially launches Enterprise Engineer 3.5 in March of 2006.

A More Intuitive and Powerful Way to Manage Engineering Projects

Enterprise Engineer 3.5 retains the broad capabilities of earlier versions of the product, and offers new features that bolster its ability to serve as a single point of controlled access for unstructured engineering content -- such as drawings, data sheets, correspondence, calculations, transmittals, specifications and financial projections.

Enterprise Engineer 3.5 boasts several new features that make it highly intuitive and powerful, including:

-- A work-manager and audit trail capability that enables companies to oversee and manage engineering tasks

-- A formal review process that provides comment and redline capabilities that allow engineers to mark-up individual sections of large-scale drawings with interactive comments and quickly navigate to view and edit existing revisions

-- Integration with Microsoft Office that allows users to utilize all Microsoft applications as part of their engineering process -- including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook files

-- The ability to manage content on both the EMC Documentum and FileNet P8 platforms, improving Enterprise Engineer's flexibility and enterprise acceptance.

Opening the Door to Intellectual Work Management

The new features help organizations reduce costs, lower the risk of non-compliance and increase control of project execution.

"Enterprise Engineer 3.5 is the only product that fully manages large-scale engineering content from inception to final approval," says Paul Muir, CEO of McLaren Software. "This gives our users complete control of the design and decision process for their multi-billion dollar projects, while also providing them with unparalleled insights into how well their engineering operations are working."

Muir also points out that Enterprise Engineer's features allow users to better understand how individual engineers are performing their tasks, thanks to a concept he calls "intellectual work management," or IWM.

"With IWM," says Muir, "engineering executives can adjust their operations to better play off of the individual strengths of each worker. It's a proactive concept that will improve individual-worker performance -- not to mention the entire engineering process."

Muir expects IWM to become a primary force for change in the engineering field. "Take worker outsourcing as an example," he says. "As major engineering projects move from Western nations to countries like India and China, so too will the workers who design and engineer these projects. IWM allows executives in the home office to maintain control of a project no matter how widely dispersed the engineering workforce. It could be a real cure-all for many of the woes now facing the industry."
