Town, Water District Cooperate on Mapping System (TownOnline)

The Sandwich Water District and the town of Sandwich will be partners in a computer system designed to modernize planning, assessing and other town departments.

The water district will pay $650,000 for the Geographic Information System and make it available for the town's use in exchange for the use of a parcel of town-owned land the water district needs for a new well. The exact piece of land has not yet been determined.

A GIS program is a computer system that is capable of integrating, storing, editing, analyzing and displaying geographically-referenced information. The program is often referred to as a "smart map" tool, enabling users to create searches and then analyze the spatial information received and edit the data.
