Adept Technology Robotics Chosen By Becton Dickinson For Diagnostic Platform

LIVERMORE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Dec. 7, 2005— Adept Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADEP), the leading provider of intelligent vision-guided robotics and global robotics services, announced today that they have been chosen by Becton, Dickinson and Company, as their robotics automation supplier for the BD ProbeTec(TM) molecular diagnostics system, a ground-breaking platform, for in vitro diagnostic applications.

The $1.1M order for Adept Cobra(TM) s600 SCARA robots are used in pipette-transfer applications in the BD Viper(TM) System, recently cleared by the FDA. The BD Viper System is an intelligent, high-volume, fully automated laboratory testing processor. The unique design and performance of the Adept Cobra is critical for accurate in vitro testing due to the highly controlled and regulated nature of the laboratory environment.

The Adept Cobra ensures the highest standard of reliability and performance in the process of pipette transfers. In comparison to manual pipetting in a laboratory environment, the Adept Cobra reduces repetitive motions and errors, thereby eliminating fatigue and distraction, which can critically affect important diagnostic results. Adept Cobras enable the limited number of technologists to work at a greater level of efficiency by increasing their productivity and minimizing their risk of injury.

"We are excited to be teamed with Becton Dickinson in the field of laboratory automation," said Robert Bucher, Chairman and CEO of Adept Technology, Inc. "This order strengthens a strategic relationship, and leverages Becton Dickinson's leadership position in medical diagnostics and laboratory equipment."
