TopSolid'Mold 2006

Missler Software will be launching the new version of its mold module, TopSolid'Mold 2006, at the trade fair Euromold in Frankfurt, 30 Nov-03 Dec. TopSolid'Mold is a fully integrated CAD module designed to meet the highly specialized needs of mold makers and tool & die specialists. TopSolid'Mold enables calculation of the shrinkage factor, analysis of undercuts, calculation of the parting line and surface of the joint, automatic creation and definition of the core block and cavity, implementation of the standard carcass, systems of injection and ejection and analysis of the cooling system. With TopSolid'Mold specific mold drafts (inject and eject views, specific dimensions…) are easily accessible TopSolid'Mold 2006 offers many new functionalities with a particular emphasis on quicker design times.

The principal improvements of TopSolid'2006 are:
Preliminary design mode
The mold parting process and the corresponding definition of the parting lines and surfaces is one of the most time intensive actions in the construction of a tool or mold. In order to deliver quotations, order raw materials and discuss drafts with customers the parting elements are not necessarily needed.

Furthermore, at this stage there are many possible changes in the mold design that require a redefinition of the parting elements. That's why in TopSolid'Mold 2006 Missler Software offers the possibility to design an initial draft of the mold without the creation of its parting elements. Thus the mold maker can provide initial mold designs including the cooling system design, ejector pin insertion, 2D drawing, etc in a quick turn-around time. Mold makers can thereby offer preliminary, "light" mold designs to sub-contractors – speed is an important element in such early stages.

Parting line improvements
Functions for the automatic creation of parting lines and surfaces have also been revised in TopSolid'Mold 2006 and offer a higher comfort to mold makers.

The software guides the user, step by step, through the process. Several options are proposed and, depending on his choice, the user will automatically be led to the next step.

In addition, TopSolid'Mold offers a better shrinkage management and improvement of part insertion. A simplified ergonomy together with a new automatic mode for edge detection facilitate the parting line creation.

One-click kinematics
TopSolid'Mold 2006 offers automated kinematic functions. This new function will enable the user, with a simple click of the mouse, to simulate the opening of the tool and to detect eventual collisions. Another advantage is the management of mold positions and their eventual projection onto 2D drawings.

Automated kinematics is a very important tool for collision management. Mold makers can henceforth visualise an open mold without the difficulty and time needed to previously manually activate the mold kinematics.

Core and cavity block importation
TopSolid'Mold also offers the possibility to import core and cavity blocks from other CAD systems or other TopSolid workstations without loosing their characteristics.

In previous versions these elements had simply been imported as geometrical blocks.

The software was unable to define the data as a punch or a die and could not, therefore, propose any further operations.

In the new 2006 version the user is given the possibility to assign later characteristics to standard carcasses.

All this leads to collaborative engineering work with external and internal partners of the company.

Cooling system improvements
TopSolid'Mold continues to improve all cooling system elements. Tank regulation, a new system for the creation of new types of cooling drillings is now available

Closely linked to the mold making activity is the design of electrodes. TopSolid'Electrode 2006, the integrated TopSolid module for the design of electrodes, boasts a major new improvement in the choice of electrode strategy. The new version manages all aspects of electrode strategy and its implementation. Henceforth, orbital electrodes which are commonly used in tool making, can be designed using TopSolid.

As with TopSolid'Mold, all electrodes and molds are automatically recognized for intelligent machining by TopSolid'Cam.
