Defense Manufacturing Summit: Achieving Best Practices And Production Improvements

ATLANTA—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Nov. 8, 2005— The Defense manufacturing industry is going through a number of changes, trying to improve efficiency, cut costs and adopt best practices more commonly utilized in the commercial manufacturing sector. There are a number of new initiatives and processes being put in place to improve productivity, reduce the number of defects, cut costs and improve overall manufacturing processes to gain a competitive edge in a consolidating market. Apart from the usual commercial market & business related factors, defense manufacturers are highly affected by government regulations and funding as well as political developments such as the war in Iraq. All these external factors impact different areas of defense manufacturing such as production capacity required and new product development/joint defense projects. Today's defense contractors must maintain and develop competitive manufacturing processes to keep pace with the changing defense landscape. The Defense Manufacturing Summit, January 29-31, 2006 at the Chateau Elan Winery & Resort, Atlanta, Georgia will present Defense Manufacturing executives with the opportunity to sharpen their skills, implement global test practices and develop winning strategies for their production and manufacturing processes while driving costs out of their bottom line.

The featured Keynote at the event will be Major General John Holly (ret.) Former Director of the Joint National Integration Centre of the US Army. Major General Holly will share his insights on "Analyzing the Risk Associated with Defense Production Programs". Fellow Summit speakers will include Lawrence Dietzler, VP Operations at L-3 Communications Inc., who will discuss "Life After Six Sigma", VP Quality and Process Improvement at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Steve Strom speaking on "Using Lean Six Sigma to 'Turn Up the Gain' on Process Improvement in Naval Ship Building", and Harris Corporation's Director of the Lean Aerospace Initiative, Phil Burroughs, who will outline methods for "Choosing and Linking the Right Projects to Bring Maximum ROI - and Quickly".

The Summit's format, an amalgamation of one-on-one business meetings, keynote presentations and conference sessions, topic tables, and networking activities, provides a select group of about 15 companies with a truly unique business development opportunity. The summit creates the opportunity for participating product and service provider companies and senior level executives to meet one-on-one in a relaxed but business-like environment.
