Solid Concepts Purchases Viper Pro SLA System

VALENCIA, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Oct. 25, 2005— 3D Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: TDSC), a leading provider of rapid 3-D printing, prototyping and manufacturing solutions, announced today that Solid Concepts has purchased the Viper(TM) Pro SLA(R) system, the company's recently introduced advanced, flexible, high-capacity stereolithography (SLA) manufacturing system, for its facilities in Valencia, CA.

"We are excited to be the first to install the new Viper Pro SLA system," said Joe Allison, president of Solid Concepts Inc. "Solid Concepts was the first RP service provider to install an SLA 500 system so we were the first to reap the benefits of its throughput. In the same way, the new Viper Pro SLA system complements our existing array of SLA, SLS(R) and CNC systems in that it will allow Solid Concepts to meet the growing demand for high-quality parts, patterns, tools and fixtures.

"The total cost of ownership of this system is superior to legacy stereolithography systems, and it is sure to enhance our overall competitive posture and enable Solid Concepts to offer to our customers better choices in materials and surface finish," continued Allison.

"I have been around this technology from its inception, and I have to say I am very impressed with the flexibility, modularity, upgradeability and performance of the new Viper Pro SLA system. The speed and flexibility offered by the new Viper Pro SLA systems, along with our other 22 rapid prototyping and manufacturing systems, will enable us to meet our customers' most demanding requirements," concluded Allison.

3D Systems' new modular Viper(TM) Pro SLA(R) system is available in three configurations, including a "dual Resin Delivery Module (RDM)" configuration, which enables customers to build parts from different materials simultaneously, and a single extra-large RDM configuration, which enables customers to build parts as large as 1.5 meters.

The new Viper Pro SLA system enables customers to mass customize and produce high-quality, end-use parts, patterns, wind tunnel models, fixtures and tools consistently and economically. Designed for lights-out 24/7 operation, the Viper Pro system facilitates maximum capacity utilization and superior part-production quality. This state-of-the-art system is loaded with new features designed to enhance functionality and improve up time such as a self-leveling recoating system, quick material change, remote machine operation capability, automatic platform changer, web camera and software that monitors and records part production data.

"Solid Concepts is exactly the kind of end-user we had in mind when we designed the Viper Pro system," said Abe Reichental, 3D Systems' president and chief executive officer. "Because Solid Concepts is a technically advanced leader and pioneer in the field of rapid prototyping and digital manufacturing services to the aerospace and automotive industries, we are delighted to have it as the first Viper Pro system user."

To enable uninterrupted production of consistent quality parts and fast material changeovers, the Viper Pro SLA system features a new and innovative Resin Delivery Module (RDM) designed for use with 3D Systems' Accura(R) material. Each RDM is an integrated portable material delivery system that contains a resin management system. Equipped with proprietary self aligning and self-leveling recoating system, the removable RDM system automatically adapts and adjusts for changes in operating conditions. The newly developed resin management system automatically detects and cross checks for proper resin type in the system. Built-in quality management features extend the useful life of material by filtering and re-circulating material, thus creating consistent operating conditions during build and idle cycles. The new management system also tracks and reports material yield, as well as volume calculations, notifying the user when to replenish the material.

"We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work closely with leading-edge customers like Solid Concepts and to deliver expert rapid manufacturing solutions that enable their success, improve their overall performance and enhance their competitive posture. Innovative partners like Solid Concepts validate our drive and determination to provide alternative manufacturing solutions for industries such as automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics and other applications," concluded Reichental.
