Roland Offers Zero Percent Financing for Desktop Milling Devices

LAKE FOREST, CA October 10, 2005 Roland Advanced Solutions Division (ASD) today announced zero percent financing available for MDX-40 and JWX-10 desktop milling devices. The limited-time offer runs through November 30.

“We’re excited to offer zero percent financing for these popular desktop mills,” said David Olson, Roland ASD Marketing Manager. “This special offer benefits both our rapid prototyping and jewelry making customers by making it even easier for them to acquire the technology they need to run a successful business.”

JWX-10 Jewelry Model Maker

The JWX-10 model maker was developed from the ground up to make the jewelry design and manufacturing process faster, easier and more profitable. The quiet and stylish 4-axis mill produces precise, castable wax models for rings, pendants, bracelets and charms. It also meets stringent ISO international standards for design and manufacturing quality.

Powered by a 20,000 rpm spindle, the JWX-10 mills wax models with detailed resolutions up to 0.002mm/step. The desktop device includes holding fixtures that make it easy to customize non-proprietary, off-the-shelf jewelry wax stock. It also comes with 4-axis CAM software, tools, wax and user manuals.

The Roland’s optional ProtoWizard software and fixture bundle lets jewelers import industry standard STL files and easily convert them into NC files ready to be milled. ProtoWizard is compatible with all jewelry design software, including GEMvision Matrix, Rhino® with Techgems, ArtCAM Jewelsmith and Type3 3Design. The included 3-sided ring fixtures and extra ring arbor allow for the production of even the most complex designs.

MDX-40 Milling Machine

At a list price of $10,995, the MDX-40 is less than half the cost of most additive RP systems while producing prototypes out of a wider variety of non-proprietary materials with greater precision and better surface finish. With its 4th rotary axis, Subtractive Rapid Prototyping (SRP) system performs both unattended two- and four-sided milling. When one side is completed, the part is automatically rotated until all four sides have been milled. This saves engineers the time and reduces errors associated with rotating objects by hand.

Like all Roland SRP devices, the MDX-40 can mill a wide range of low cost, non-proprietary materials including ABS, delrin, nylon, and tooling board. This lets engineers create functional prototypes to test how well products will actually work. Handled by market focus groups, these prototypes must perform like the final manufactured product and survive a barrage of physical tests, including thermal and structural trials. For example, toothbrush prototypes undergo in-vivo testing for hand fit, brush reach and handle deflection.
