MEDUSA has always had a passionate and loyal customer base, especially in Germany, where many famous engineering companies’ CAD expertise came of age with the product’s powerful drafting tools and application-specific add-on modules, including plant and electrical design.
Past, Present and Future
Since the product takeover in 2001, CAD Schroer’s main drive has been to offer personal and highly proficient support for the existing customer base, while plowing immense resource into new developments to offer real value for maintenance money. The release of the MEDUSA4 advanced drafting module in the summer of 2004, showcasing the latest technologies combined with a continued dedication to quality and platform independence, signaled a clear, long-term commitment to the future of the PLM solution. With the advent of MEDUSA4 Revision 2, almost all existing modules have been ported to the new technology, and CSG has launched a number of unique and innovative tools, set to attract a whole new generation of engineers.
“This is an incredibly exciting time for us,” says Mark Simpson, the company’s Product Line Manager, who experienced MEDUSA’s evolution first-hand over many years. “Today we have over 25,000 installed licenses in 39 countries, but we have no intention of resting on our laurels. It’s time to shout about this product, and a free personal license is a great way to get the message out there.”
Building on Customer Loyalty
Getting and staying close to the customer base is one of CSG’s main objectives. Its famous “by engineers for engineers” approach to software development has garnered the support of designers at the front lines, while the product’s quality, flexibility, reliability and availability on all major platforms – even Linux, as recently announced – makes it a true value proposition at the corporate level. Building on recent successes, CSG opened subsidiaries in France and the United Kingdom this year, strengthened its presence in the United States, and expanded its reseller network throughout the world.
“This summer, we launched a new customer day format, which brought us in direct contact with clients throughout Europe, who were keen to learn about our corporate and product strategy,” explains Michael Schroer, founding Director, “The feedback on the new functionality in MEDUSA4 R2 and the planned release of the free personal license was incredibly positive, and strengthened our resolve to move forward with this campaign.”
What’s in the Free Personal Version of MEDUSA4?
MEDUSA4 for free personal use will include most of MEDUSA’s advanced drafting functionality, as well as many other add-ons, including:
groundbreaking new SMART Edit, an innovative engineering approach to dynamic design editing, offering “parametrics on demand”
MEDUSA4 3D – unique, quick and easy sheet-based modelling, taking your existing design knowledge into a 3D world
MEDUSA4 Parametrics – powerful functionality, providing the key to process automation
It is available on Windows® 2000 (SP3) and XP (SP2). Because it is free, support is limited to “black hole” e-mail support only, but new users are also likely to find help through the MEDUSA forum.
