ANSYS CFO Named Award Finalist

Pittsburgh Business Times Award Program Recognizes ANSYS for Outstanding Performance

SOUTHPOINTE, Pa., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ANSYS, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANSS), a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced that its Chief Financial Officer, Maria Shields, has been named a finalist in the Pittsburgh Business Times 2005 CFO of the Year Awards.

The CFO of the Year Awards are given to financial professionals in the Pittsburgh region for outstanding performance in their roles as corporate financial stewards. ANSYS' CFO is one of five finalists in the "public company" category, selected from a field of 80 overall nominations. The finalists were chosen by an independent panel of judges, all of whom have specific and varying views on the role of a CFO. Judging criteria included the nominee's career achievements and contributions to the company's growth, profitability and other aspects of corporate management.

Shields has been at the helm of ANSYS finances for the past seven years. During this period, the company's revenue and net income have grown at compounded annual rates of 17% and 25%, respectively. This performance was driven by the company's continued global expansion of leading-edge engineering simulation solutions. The company has delivered superior and consistent returns to its stakeholders evidenced by a 37% compounded annual growth rate in the company's stock price from 1998 to 2004. ANSYS has often landed on many of the "fastest growing" lists, including Forbes, Business Week, Business 2.0 and FORTUNE Small Business. Most recently, ANSYS was named to the "Region's Tech 50 List" by the Pittsburgh Technology Council for demonstrating strong growth, financial strength, job growth and retention and innovative products.

"It is an honor to be selected to represent ANSYS in the financial arena," said Maria Shields of her being named as one the CFO finalists. "I am extremely fortunate and very proud to work with the incredible team at ANSYS. Together we have been following our vision of growing ANSYS to be the global leader in providing engineering simulation solutions. I look forward to the many challenges that we still face and hope that our efforts will continue to benefit ANSYS employees, customers and partners throughout the world."

The Pittsburgh Business Times CFO of the Year Award program provides many benefits to the region's business community by highlighting the growing importance of financial executives. Winners in six categories will be announced at an awards program on November 2, 2005, to be held at the Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. This is the inaugural year for the Pittsburgh Business Times CFO of the Year Award.
