ZMP Uses PTC Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire To Develop World's First Human-Like Robot Developed For Mass Market
PTC announced that ZMP, the first company specializing in humanoid robots, has created to the world's first humanoid robot for the consumer market using Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire. ZMP used PTC Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire to design a smaller, lighter and more affordable robot, from scratch. After successfully using Pro/ENGINEER to design and build its first robot, PINO ver. 2, ZMP designers then brought the next generation PINO robot to life quickly and cost-effectively. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire provided the designers with advanced modeling and surfacing tools as well as the ability to integrate the 2D drawing environment with the world of 3D design. With Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, ZMP created a new humanoid robot, nuvo, in less than one year. Mechanical design was completed in two months and for one quarter the cost of PINO ver. 2. Using Pro/ ENGINEER Wildfire, ZMP's design team reduced the height, weight, and number of mechanisms by 50 per cent and slashed costs by 75 per cent.

Boeing Launches New Higher Capacity, Longer Range 737
The Boeing Company officially launched the 737-900ER (Extended Range) -- the newest member of the world's best-selling next-generation 737 family -- following the completion of a sales agreement for up to 60 of the airplanes from Lion Air. The 737-900ER, formerly known as the 737-900X, will carry more passengers and fly farther, increasing the capability of the next-generation 737 airplane family. Lion Air, Indonesia's first low-cost carrier, originally announced its intent to order up to 60 737s earlier this year. Today's firm order is for 30 of the new derivative airplane, with purchase rights for 30 additional models. The order is worth $3.9 billion at list prices. The first 737-900ER is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2007.
