"We're seeing a growing need for our students to be able to think, operate and design in 3-D earlier in their academic careers," said Gregory Batt, a lecturer and established laboratory manager in the Mechanical Properties of Packaging. "thinkstart was a smart choice for us because it's easy to learn and has an excellent online training and university support system in place to support us." Batt said students design packages that are organic in shape. Offering a software program like DesignXpressions, that provides both powerful surfacing tools in addition to strong solid modeling tools, is important.
Batt says the use of think3 technology will expand beyond the fundamental classes being taught to undergraduates into the school's Master of Science degree program as the use of thinkstart matures at the university. Since think3 launched its North American program last October, dozens of schools have signed up for the program, including The Academy of Art University in San Francisco, one of the US's top automotive design schools. Thousands of students at more than 125 universities and top design schools in Italy, Germany, France and Japan are also using think3 technology in the classroom.
Through thinkstart, think3 is partnering with schools and universities to put innovative next-generation industrial design technology -- thinkiD DesignXpressions -- into the hands of the next generation of product design and development professionals. Students and faculty are eligible for the full version of the software on an annual subscription basis when they participate in the thinkstart program. As an added benefit, students can use thinkiD for free for one year following their graduation. For more information about thinkstart, visit www.think3.com.
