SmalTec Introduces Micro-EDM Equipment, Prototyping And Manufacturing Solutions & Services

CAROL STREAM, Ill.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—July 25, 2005— SmalTec International, LLC, a Microtechnology Solutions Provider within the Small Technology Industry sector, now offers Best-In-Class, Made in the USA Micro-EDM Equipment and Full-Service Prototyping and Micro Manufacturing Solutions & Services for its high-tech customers.

SmalTec was founded in 2002 and initially focused on being the exclusive Panasonic Micro-EDM Equipment Provider in North America. Today, SmalTec has accepted the challenge of being a true 3-D micro-EDM Leader by introducing new leading edge microtechnology solutions and offerings where Panasonic has left off. After several years of working with Fortune 100 companies and America's top R&D Facilities, and built on the strong knowledge gained from the many years with Panasonic, SmalTec has expanded its offerings in 2005 with SmalTec engineered and locally manufactured next generation Micro-EDM equipment, with expanded capability. Full service micro-EDM prototyping and micro-manufacturing solutions and services are also available, a natural progression for the company in response to the incredible growth within the microtechnology industry.

"The future really starts here. SmalTec International was formed 30 months ago because microtechnology is the fast-growing discipline of the small technology industry. Our microtechnology solutions and services have allowed us to work with high-tech clients from Chi-Town (Chicago) to Shatin (Hong Kong) in a multitude of high tech disciplines", stated Jerry Mraz, General Manager/Vice President of SmalTec. "Next generation super-efficient fuel injectors, ultrahigh dpi inkjet printers, miniature satellites, micro-medical and dental devices, alternative fuel cells, etc., are being prototyped and engineered today. Demand to accelerate these high-tech concepts into localized mass production is exponential, which is why SmalTec now offers micro-engineering and micro-manufacturing services. Size does matter, smaller is better, and SmalTec has tomorrow's solutions, today!"

"Today's complex applications utilize traditional materials such as Stainless Steel, Brass, Nitinol, and Tungsten, as well as unconventional ones like Molybdenum, Tantalum, Platinum and Ceramics", said Mr. Mraz. SmalTec International's micro-machining capabilities and ultra-precise results are impressive, not to mention very small. The company provides the technology to accurately produce features, or entire parts, with micrometer (micron or um) dimensions to within +/- 100 nanometers (nm) tolerances. Perfect round holes as small as 5 um diameter (0.0002") to complex micro patterns to true 3-D contoured shapes are achieved utilizing SmalTec's latest technology. Ultra-high precision machining can be done on curved surfaces, inclined surfaces and thin materials, which are very difficult to produce with other available technologies. A mirror finish surface roughness of 10 nm Rmax, or 2.8 nm RMS, can be achieved.

The Future Starts Here... By charting the way and offering leading edge true 3-D contoured micro-scale machining solutions, SmalTec International, LLC is today's new pioneer in the microtechnology industry. Industries benefiting from SmalTec's technology and offerings include Telecommunications, Medical, Aerospace, Micro- Milling & Molding, Automotive, MEMS, Nanotechnology and others.
