About Samco Machinery

BRAMPTON, Ontario. July 07, 2005 / Netstream Press Release Samco Machinery is synonymous with quality roll forming machinery. Samco Machinery is a world class manufacturer of turnkey roll forming systems, which include in-line punching, lancing, embossing, welding, wing bending, riveting and the joining of similar or dissimilar materials. Since Samco’s inception in 1972 they have grown to be one of the worlds most respected roll forming machinery manufactures. Samco’s commitment to quality is unsurpassed as they were one of the first company’s within their industry to attain ISO 9001 registration in North America. Samco machines are used and trusted throughout the world. With more than 30 years of experience, their customers can be rest assured that a Samco machine is built to last.

The Challenge

Samco was a long time user of AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop. Samco had an extensive database of DWG files containing pertinent bill of material (BOM) data. Samco also had valuable data stored within their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, Visual Manufacturing.

Samco realized that the benefits of moving to Autodesk Inventor would be advantageous from the design side but would be limited from the BOM aspect due to the large rework required to convert BOM data from Visual Manufacturing and Mechanical Desktop into Autodesk Inventor.

Samco recognized that in order to continue improvement on design and manufacturing, they needed more than a new design tool. Samco would require a new way of capturing and linking CAD data to ERP as being paramount to improving accuracy and reducing mundane tasks. such as multiple data entry points.

The Solution

After consulting with other local Autodesk resellers, Samco selected Solid Caddgroup Inc. due to their expertise with Autodesk Inventor and their strong relationship with Netstream Solutions Inc. the developers of iCenter for Autodesk Inventor. Solid Caddgroup spent time with Samco to develop a solution that was based on the iCenter platform. Solid Caddgroup and Netstream Solutions built a custom application to extract BOM data from Visual Manufacturing and Mechanical Desktop in order to populate the data within Autodesk Inventor files.

Once the data was successfully migrated to Autodesk Inventor, Solid Caddgroup and Netstream implemented iCenter to define the format necessary to enter iProperty data. Samco understood the importance of using iCenter in order to ensure the accurate entry of iProperties, since it would be the iProperties that would generate that bill of material that would drive their ERP system (Visual Manufacturing).

Bob Repovs, President of Samco states that “Samco is committed to continually improve processes within our organization, implementing world class design tools such as iCenter and Autodesk Inventor proves our ongoing commitment to providing quality products within the roll forming industry.”

iCenter for Autodesk Inventor.

Netstream's iCenter application provides powerful iProperties and Bill of Materials management to users of Autodesk Inventor and to departments other than engineering who do not have access to the CAD system. iProperties are essential to the definition of each component. The core focus of the iCenter application is to create an environment that manages how iProperties should be entered, who should enter them, and when they must be entered. Simplified and accurate entry of iProperty data is accomplished by leveraging other department's current information within the organization. The complete definition of all components and their relationships form the foundation of Bill of Materials. The iCenter application allows organizations to further structure the reporting and exporting of the Bill of Materials. Design data can now be easily shared with all other departments and downstream applications such as Document Management or ERP systems.
