DesignSource Software Improves 3D Design Data Management and Communication for Organizations Using SolidWorks
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2002-- DesignSource Technology, Inc., a SolidWorks Gold Partner, announces the release of PDM/Works® 2002, the latest version of the company's fully integrated product data management (PDM) solution for the SolidWorks® mechanical design environment. In addition to operating faster than previous releases, PDM/Works 2002 includes two areas of new functionality: the PDM/Works AVA (Advanced Vault Application) module and seamless integration with SolidWorks Toolbox, a library of commonly used product design components.
The PDM/Works 2002 AVA module provides robust functionality for integrating SolidWorks design information and enterprise processes, such as Management Resource Planning (MRP) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications, enabling effective communication between the engineering and product development team and the extended enterprise. Seamless integration with the SolidWorks Toolbox automates the inclusion of Toolbox components when an assembly is checked into the PDM/Works vault, eliminating the need for manual intervention.
PDM/Works provides single-window integration inside SolidWorks 2001 Plus. The software, which is extremely easy to use, implement, and install, was developed to provide an affordable solution for supporting the data management needs of the product design process and the engineering team. PDM/Works enables SolidWorks users to fully manage the revision control and vaulting of SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings as well other file types, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, DWG, PDF, etc.
Jim Foster, President of DesignSource Technology, Inc., says, "With every release of PDM/Works 2002, we continue to focus on ease-of-use, functionality, and performance. Providing complete information regarding the status of product design data facilitates good data management, enhances communication, and supports collaborative engineering. Full integration with the SolidWorks Toolbox and the ability to integrate easily with other data systems further complements this complete data management solution for product development organizations using SolidWorks, accelerating product development and time to market."
PDM/Works also provides a solid foundation for extending product design communication throughout the enterprise. The software allows engineers to work concurrently across project teams, over LANs, WANs, and the Internet, while maintaining the integrity of product data and minimizing duplicated effort and redundancies across an organization. PDM/Works Standalone, which does not require a seat of SolidWorks, and the PDM/Works Portal, which provides web-browser access to product design data, enable manufacturers to overcome additional data and geographic barriers to effective product data management.
Pricing and Availability
Like SolidWorks, PDM/Works 2002 runs under the Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000, Millennium, XP and NT operating systems and is extremely affordable. The software can be purchased through the SolidWorks Value-Added Reseller (VAR) Channel starting at $495 per seat. The product will ship in early April 2002.
