J.S. McNamara Uses Autodesk Inventor Software to Build Hummer H2 Assembly Line Machinery

Autodesk Inventor Chosen for Ease of Use and Large Assembly Performance

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2002--Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK - news), the world's leading design software and digital content company, today announced that J.S. McNamara/Lamb Technicon, a leading engineering and manufacturing supplier to the automotive industry, has standardized on Autodesk Inventor software in order to meet the demanding schedule of their latest project, building the overall design for the assembly line machinery that will be used to produce the Hummer H2 sport utility vehicle. Autodesk Inventor was chosen primarily for its ease of use, large assembly performance and adaptive technology, as well as for its superior visualization and collaboration tools.

"Autodesk Inventor is really the first 3D CAD system you can learn and be productive with immediately," said Jason McNamara, CAD Application Engineer, J.S. McNamara. "You can work with huge machine assemblies, and the software can take you through the whole engineering process to author design data for use everywhere in the company."

Models created in the Autodesk Inventor software program allow designers to see how complicated machinery and assembly line parts work together. Using Autodesk Inventor together with Autodesk Streamline, a hosted collaboration service for sharing design information outside the engineering department, J.S. McNamara and their partners could see how every part of a machine would behave, eliminating the need for a prototype and saving valuable time and money. In addition, J.S. McNamara's customer could track their progress by reviewing 3D models before any assembly machinery was built. This error proofing that could be done upfront represented a 60 percent timesavings on the floor.

Working in partnership, Autodesk and Autodesk Authorized Systems Center INCAT ( www.incat.com) ensured that Autodesk Inventor software handled the technical challenges presented by J.S. McNamara.

"Just automating the engineering and design departments no longer offers manufacturing companies a distinct competitive advantage," said Robert Kross, vice president of the Manufacturing Division at Autodesk. "Manufacturing companies need technology solutions that integrate the entire enterprise, allowing them to share information beyond the design department to other parts of the company. Unlike other CAD applications, innovative new design technology like Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Streamline together let customers share design data throughout the organization, creating internal efficiencies and allowing customers to focus on streamlining production, optimizing the supply chain, reducing costs, and finding new revenue opportunities."
