“Fusion-DX And The Fusion-DMZ Web Portal Implemented At MG Rover To Improve Supply Chain CAD Data Collaboration”

Title: “Fusion-DX and the Fusion-DMZ Web Portal Implemented at MG Rover to Improve Supply Chain CAD Data Collaboration”

Leeds, United Kingdom – Thursday 17th March - Datranet Limited the worldwide supplier of product design communication and collaboration solutions has announced that it has successfully completed a project for MG Rover, the UK car manufacturer. The project involved delivery of Datranet’s innovative software Fusion-DX and the Fusion-DMZ Web Portal. This software is used by companies who need to automate, control and manage their CAD data translations, CAD data communications and collaborative product development activities with business partners.

MG Rover is using the Datranet software to communicate its CATIA v4 CAD data with its worldwide supply chain. Individual engineers are now in control of their own collaboration activities with specific suppliers.

Both Kevin Packer (Manager CAx Strategy & Development) and Julian Brown (Data Management Systems Manager) at MG Rover Group Ltd were heavily involved in the project.
When asked about the software, Kevin was pleased to state, “Fusion-DX and the Fusion-DMZ Web Portal fulfilled the three main criteria that we were looking for to streamline our CAD data communication processes:
The ability to communicate data to the global supply chain without reliance on local protocols.
Simplification of the translation and communication process by removal of multiple stand-alone applications and replacing them with one simple to use platform independent web based interface.
A full electronic audit trail of all data communications replacing the traditional 'paper mountain'.
Engineers now spend less time on the data administration tasks and more time on value added design activities, with the added confidence of knowing that the required data is being delivered on time, and in the correct format wherever required.”

Before the introduction of the Datranet software the workflow involved numerous manual steps for an engineer that, on average, could take 30 minutes. Now, it only takes up to a minute or two to initiate supply chain communications. Fusion-DX and the Fusion-DMZ Web Portal work together seamlessly so that MG Rover engineers know what has been sent or received where, when and by whom.

Julian Brown was asked about his experience of working with Datranet and he commented. “The MG Rover Data Management Systems team was assigned to the implementation and delivery of Fusion-DX and the Fusion-DMZ Web Portal into MG Rover. We found Datranet to be a technically capable team from the outset. We agreed the timing plan with them and they delivered to meet the expectations of MG Rover. Where issues arose, Datranet responded both quickly and professionally and not just from the Datranet project resource team but also from the helpdesk support. Fusion-DX and the Fusion-DMZ Web Portal are now installed at MG Rover and delivering the benefits we expected. The partnership will now continue and evolve in the months to come to bring further data exchange and management benefits for MG Rover and its supply chain.”

The software in use at MG Rover includes:
Fusion-DX: This is the internal application used by MG Rover engineers. It integrates with the following MG Rover applications:
o        Dassault Systemes CATIA v4 in-built translators
o        Theorem Solutions CADverter CADDS to CATIA v4 direct translator
o        Atos EDI Manger for ISDN OFTP-based communication
o        Email for internal and external notifications
o        Nero StartSmart CD reading and writing software which is used when very large data packs need to be sent or received
o        Fusion-DMZ – the Fusion-DX Web Portal to communicate with partners and suppliers
Fusion-DMZ: This is the secure HTTPS web portal that a select number of business partners and suppliers use to:
o        Download data sent to then by MG Rover engineers
o        Upload and send data to specific MG Rover engineers

Martyn Davies, Managing Director, Datranet worked closely with MG Rover and the implementation team. “We are pleased that MG Rover is using Fusion-DX and the Fusion-DMZ Web Portal in full production and they are reaping the savings and benefits we forecasted”, he said. “Fusion-DX is taking the automotive, truck and aerospace industries by storm. We have completed over 50 projects for OEMs and suppliers in Europe, the USA and Asia in the past 12 months.”
