Southfield, MICHIGAN, November 2004 -- Version 9 introduces EdgeCAM Solid Machinist for CATIA V5, allowing the user to load native part and assembly files. Another addition is EdgeCAM Solid Machinist for ACIS, which allows the user to directly load native .sat and .sab files. Combined with the ability to load native Autodesk Inventor, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, and Solid Edge files, this new capability reinforces EdgeCAM's place as the standard in intelligent solids based manufacturing.
EdgeCAM Solid Machinist is a seamlessly integrated CAM system offering true associativity to the native CAD model, using the intelligence contained within the model to reduce programming time and eliminate the risk of errors. Full toolpath to model associativity means that even late design changes can be easily incorporated.
Using Automatic Feature Recognition, EdgeCAM Solid Machinist interrogates the model to find machineable features. No matter how complex the part, holes, 2D and 3D contour pocket and boss features can be found and information extracted with a single mouse click. The user also has the ability to find single, nested or both types of pockets. The information is used with EdgeCAM Tool Selector to select the optimal tools from the available toolstore to machine the features using EdgeCAM's extensive range of cutting strategies.
