Capvidia?s 3DVision Verifies CAD Model Quality using VDA 4955, AIAG D-15 Recommendations

Leuven, Belgium, January 21, 2002- Capvidia, formerly known as TESIS Software, a developer of engineering software announces the release of 3D Vision 1.2 for automatic translation and repair of CAD Neutral and native files.

The first version of 3DVision introduced to the market in September 2001 targeted automatic translation and repair of 3D neutral CAD models. The new version brings many new features. The most important new function is the Geometry Check function based on the Verband der Automobilindustrie e.v. (VDA) 4955 and the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) D-15 recommendations defining the quality of a 3D model. The model geometry and topology are entirely checked. All model flaws are automatically detected and shown on the model.

The user can define his “own quality standard” by specifying the minimum size and length of geometrical entities (edges, surfaces, sharp angles, etc.). The geometry check can be performed on a model originating from any CAD system. 3DVison can import neutral data formats (IGES, VDA-FS, STEP) and also provides support of native file formats such as CATIA v4, CADDS, UGS, P/E, Parasolid, ACIS. Geometry Check provides you with powerful functions verifying 3D model quality before sharing it through collaborative engineering, archiving, or passing it to your sub-contractors.

Geometry Check combined with automatic repair and healing functions solves frustrating CAD incompatibility problems. Verifying your models with Geometry Check will give you confidence that your models will not cause problems when passed to other departments for FEM analysis, rapid prototyping or CNC code generation. Geometry Check will help you to stay within predefined budgets and time lines.

3DVision uses a flexible pricing system based on the “no cure no pay” concept. You get a detailed report listing all corrections performed on each 3D model entity. Charges are incurred only when results are satisfactory and you decide to export (save) the repaired file. The charges will depend on the amount of repairs performed automatically by 3DVision. The maximum charge is limited to 250 EURO (independent from file size and amount of repair points). This pricing concept minimizes your initial investment and allows you to control the cost through all project phases.

3DVision is based on the Capvidia’s 3D kernel technology, which is able to handle large models and assemblies (>100 Mbytes) fully independent from a CAD system.
