Machine Tool Vendors Benefit from HSM CAM
With machining STRATEGIST proving its speed, capability and ease of use in an increasing number of applications, more machine tool companies are now taking advantage of this advanced 3D CAM system, from NC Graphics.
Bridgeport Machines uses the software on a range of mould and die projects in the UK which are proved out on a Mouldmaster VMC 1000 machine. The company has built-up a close working relationship with NC Graphics and together they have developed some impressive customer demonstrations. As Regional Manager Ed Matejak enthused. "We recently machined a complex core mould for a power drill handle in 50 HRC steel in less than half the time it used to take. While in more general terms, we have found the system easy to implement and use, and have had excellent support and technical back-up from NC Graphics."
On evaluating NC Graphics machining STRATEGIST, BDC Europe provided a complex model. Says Paul Smith of BDC Europe. “The model loaded quickly and with its 'wizard' CAM based strategies, was soon being programmed. What came to the fore-front of the demonstration, was the built in defaults for high speed machining, without any real need to switch any flags or parameters, therefore saving time on programming and user interaction.”
“Once the program has been generated, a stock model can quickly be produced for verification of the toolpath. Selection and post-processing of the toolpaths is handled quickly, along with a versatile post, which allows prompts for any inserts, altogether making machining STRATEGIST a powerful CAM system.”
“It is essential for both BDC and their customers, to provide a quick turn around in order to be competitive. NC Graphics machining STRATEGIST provides all of the knowledge’ of true high speed machining and with their excellent customer support, it is a wise choice for any manufacturer.”
Meanwhile, in the USA, NC Graphics has formed a relationship with Makino, where the software is being used to create various CNC part programs for toolmaking type projects. Four of Makinos applications engineers are now using machining STRATEGIST and the system is simplifying the generation of complex 3D programs required for the high speed machining of tools, dies and moulds. As Roger Goble, one of the applications engineers involved said: "I could not believe how easy the system was to learn and I was cutting parts much sooner than expected."
German machine tool company DEPO have sold nearly 300 seats of machining STRATEGIST, spread mainly throughout Europe and also in Canada, Taiwan and China. The main type of industry being mould making, including injection and drop forge moulds.
Moving closer to home again, Mikron (Birmingham), is another machine tool company which has latched on to the benefits of machining STRATEGIST. As Managing Director, Martin Leaper explained: "We went for the software because we needed to be able to produce accurate cutter paths for demonstrations, customer trials and prove-out programs. We wanted a 3D CAM system which was easy to use and could rapidly generate tool paths from IGES files for high speed machining routines. The system has been easy to implement and we’ve had very good technical support."
More recently, Cincinnati Machine UK has installed machining STRATEGIST in its showroom of late, while DMG Machine Tools at the time of writing, are awaiting installation and commissioning of their first system.
