PLMIG calls for metrics for PLM Delivery

Oxford, England. July 01 2015 -- PLM needs to show that it can deliver on its promises. When people ask: "Will PLM be worth doing?", the answers should be readily available.

When an implementation is successful, this should be made crystal clear to everybody. When PLM achieves its targets and improves the business, this should be visible in solid numbers.

It is now possible to calculate metrics for every useful business benefit that PLM can provide, using the PLM Project Justification Handbook, but there also needs to be a formal PLM Delivery structure that everybody can agree on. The process of defining and implementing PLM is complex and iterative, and needs continual management by both the user and the vendor.

The goal is to define a neutral PLM Delivery structure that can be used internationally, and in all types of PLM user enterprise. This will inspire confidence in the adoption programme, and fast track the approval process.

The first step is to gather input into the metrics and deliverables that users and vendors think are the most significant.

The PLMIG will carry out a PLM Delivery Survey during July that will give PLM practitioners from all parts of the industry the chance to input their views. The results will be used to structure a 3-day face-to-face industry event in October.

The PLM Interest Group
The PLM Interest Group is the leading neutral industry group for PLM. It has produced the PLM Project Justification Handbook for PLM financial justification; the PLMuERP Handbook for enterprise-wide PLM-ERP integration; as well as tools for Benchmarking, Maturity Measurement and Self-Assessment.
