PLMIG aims for industry-wide PLM Best Practice

Oxford, England. June 23, 2015 -- As part of its 2015 programme of Active PLM Improvement, which enables user companies to show clear and demonstrable PLM gains over the course of the year, the PLMIG aims to raise the profile and acceptance of PLM Best Practice.

There are widespread examples of good practice and advanced development in PLM, but such examples are always presented in isolation. With no common parameters or metrics to make comparisons, the viewpoint of "Best" is entirely subjective.

This lack of structure and definition has long-term adverse consequences. If PLM Best Practice is not defined, then nobody can learn from it. PLM practitioners re-invent elements of Best Practice that are already known to other people, or miss some aspects completely through lack of awareness. The resulting under-performance is unnecessary and entirely avoidable.

The PLMIG published a PLM Bulletin on the subject in March, and is now taking the concept forward within an integrated programme to develop the PLM industry.

The PLM Interest Group
The PLM Interest Group is the leading neutral industry group for PLM. It has produced the PLM Project Justification Handbook for PLM financial justification; the PLMuERP Handbook for enterprise-wide PLM-ERP integration; as well as tools for Benchmarking, Maturity Measurement and Self-Assessment.
