Jan 19, 2015 -- A high-quality mesh is one of the key success factors to attain accurate simulation results.
Besides the existing Moldex3D mesh generation technologies, a geometry healing tool is needed to check and fix geometry defects in a CAD model. Thus, Moldex3D CADdoctor, a powerful tool developed under the partnership between Moldex3D and Elysium, is introduced to enable multi-CAD data transfer, geometry quality verification and model simplification. Important for running an accurate analysis, Moldex3D CADdoctor can not only ensure mesh quality but also decrease calculation time through simplifying the complex geometry in the model. Furthermore, this powerful feature is embedded in Moldex3D Designer, making the workflow between geometry fix and mesh generation as easy as possible.
As shown in Figure 1, several free edges are detected in a geometric model that has been converted through numerous different CAD systems and finally imported into Moldex3D Designer. Through the auto-repair function of Moldex3D CADdoctor, geometry defects can be healed efficiently. As shown in Figure 2, all the free edges are fixed, and the model is ready for mesh generation in order to run an accurate mold-filling assessment.

In summary, geometry repairs play a deciding role in mesh quality. If a CAD model, a complex geometric model in particular, receives adequate geometry repairs, adjustments and simplification in the pre-processing stage, the meshing of such model can be generated efficiently and with high quality. That is, the higher the mesh qualities are, the more accurate and precise simulation results will be ensured.
