PLMIG announces 5 Areas to Improve PLM in 2015

Oxford, England. December 17, 2014 -- The PLMIG announces 5 areas in which PLM should improve in 2015 to advance beyond current trends:-

PLM Best Practice
The term 'PLM Best Practice' has been a grey area for far too long, and many implementations have underperformed simply because general best practice has been neglected. The PLMIG programme for 2015 will capture and codify PLM Best Practice as members use its toolsets, with the aim of gaining industry-wide agreement by the end of the year.

Financial Management
The PLMIG PLM Project Justification Handbook contains a complete, practical methodology to quantify the costs, benefits and commercial value of implementing PLM. Its use over the year will enable PLM Managers to prove that PLM is worth doing from a purely financial viewpoint.

PLMuERP Integration
The aim should not be to "interface" PLM and ERP, but to harmonise them for the good of the business. The PLMuERP Handbook contains the neutral methodology for achieving an optimal enterprise-wide environment, and in 2015 the focus will be on using it to drive long-term planning for full integration.

Self-Assessment
One of the most powerful ways to find out how well a PLM implementation is running is to gather the feedback of those who are affected by it, but this needs to be done in a structured way. The PLM Team can use the PLM Self-Assessment Toolkit to carry out general internal assessments and comparisons; or the PLM Validation Toolkit to run a focused assessment of PLM Strategy.

New Material
New and updated material for 2015 will include:-
  • PLM Financial Management Handbook
  • PLM Governance Standard
  • PLM Maturity Reference Manual
  • Accountancy Overview for PLM Managers
Full details of the programme are available on the PLMIG web site, and membership for 2015 is now open.

The PLM Interest Group
The PLM Interest Group is the leading neutral industry group for PLM. It has developed the first ever Standard for PLM Governance, and also the first complete Project Justification methodology for quantifying PLM. Previous PLMIG workshop series have produced the PLM Benchmarking Handbook; the PLM Maturity Reference Manual; and the PLMuERP Handbook.
