Darmstadt, Germany, March 2013 – The white paper entitled “3D Formats in the Field of Engineering – A Comparison” that PROSTEP published in 2011, and which has been downloaded hundreds of times, has undergone comprehensive revision, bringing it up to date. As before, the updated version is available for downloading as a PDF file free of charge from the PROSTEP website.
The white paper provides an overview and, with various use cases, serves as an orientation guide for companies faced with selecting the neutral 3D format appropriate for them.
Neutral 3D formats are indispensable for the distribution and exchange of 3D models in engineering departments and in upstream and downstream departments and divisions when the original system is not available, the distribution of native data is too expensive and a high level of detail is not necessary. The selection of a certain format will determine, for example, the range of possible applications and the follow-up costs involved.
