Up to date aerial photography of New York City is now available online from Getmapping. The high-resolution imagery provides stunning views of the five boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, The Bronx and Manhattan, as well as parts of Hudson, Westchester and Nassau. Visitors to the website www.getmapping.com/usa can preview and purchase the photography, downloading areas from 0.3 x 0.3 miles to 1.3 x 1.3 miles.
Getmapping became famous in the UK when the Queen became an investor in its ambitious Millennium Map venture to photograph the entire UK from the air. The British firm has since pioneered online aerial photography and New York was seen as the natural launch pad for international expansion.
The New York imagery was captured during last summer and is the most up to date available. It provides a vertical view to create a photo-map that is geographically-matched to conventional street maps. Of particular use to realtors, developers, architects and public services, the photographs can be home or office centered and are great gifts.
Getmapping was the first company to produce a complete and seamless photo-map of an entire country, having completed England, Wales and now much of Scotland. Through use of the Internet, the company has revolutionized the imagery market by making aerial photography easily accessible to everyone. Outside the UK, Getmapping is making its online know-how available to aerial photography partners worldwide as part of a global expansion strategy.
The New York aerial photography is considerably more detailed than most aerial imagery; much of which is captured via satellite. The data was captured from a specially-equipped survey aircraft flying at 5,500 ft and provides on-the-ground pixel resolution of less than 10 inches. The digital images can be downloaded for around $45.00 including taxes.
