Moldex3D and Trexel Enter into a Joint Development Agreement for MuCell® Process Productivity

Hsinchu, Taiwan, February 29, 2012 - CoreTech System (Moldex3D) Co., Ltd., and Trexel, Inc. announced that they have entered into a Joint Development Agreement for enhancing MuCell® process productivity. Trexel is the worldwide leader in the development and commercialization of the patented MuCell® microcellular foaming process for injection and blow molding process systems, and CoreTech System (Moldex3D) is the “True 3D” injection molding CAE simulation solution innovator.

“The MuCell® process, enabling part weight reduction and product performance improvement, is widely employed in automotive, electronic/electrical products, construction, outdoor products and many other applications,” said Steve Braig, president and CEO of Trexel. “We firmly believe that a reliable design and simulation tool providing useful guidance when designing a mold for the MuCell® process will help our customers increase their efficiency and productivity levels dramatically. We are very excited about this collaboration with CoreTech System (Moldex3D) to develop a truly representative MuCell® mold filling simulation tool by considering the process characteristics under different polymers, fillers and injection parameters.”

Dr. Venny Yang, President of CoreTech System (Moldex3D) noted “True 3D injection molding simulation technology has advanced significantly over the years. It allows more realistic simulation results for versatile processes with high accuracy and reliability. We are very excited to be working with Trexel for further enhancing MuCell® process predictability and productivity.”

CoreTech System (Moldex3D) and Trexel are jointly establishing a detailed plan and specifications for following development and validations. The enhanced capabilities are expected to be available within 2012.

About Trexel and the MuCell® Process

The MuCell® Microcellular Foam technology from Trexel Inc. is a complete process and equipment technology that enables the production of high quality plastic parts with significantly enhanced dimensional stability, lower weight/material and reduced cycle time. MuCell® technology involves the introduction of precisely metered quantities of atmospheric gases (nitrogen or carbon dioxide) in the plasticizing unit of an injection molding machine to create a microcellular material structure in the end product. The creation of these microcellular structures brings a wide array of benefits including an increased part quality along with reduced production costs.

Trexel, Inc. has led the development of the MuCell® Microcellular foaming technology and has pioneered many plastic processing solutions. Process deployment as well as equipment is supported by teams of highly qualified engineers through Trexel subsidiaries in North America, Europe, and Asia.
