Silterra Forecasts Record Q4 2003 Leading Into Strong 2004; Fab Utilization Rates To Exceed 90 Percent

KULIM, Malaysia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 2003--Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., a leading semiconductor wafer foundry, today announced that it is forecasting robust customer demand in Q4 2003 and through 2004. Facility utilization rate for the company's Fab 1 will be over 90 percent in Q4 and is expected to remain healthy during 2004.

Silterra has received record bookings during Q3 2003 and is seeing equally strong activities in the fourth quarter. The company's demand forecast shows the booking momentum will continue at least through 2004, and the overall outlook for the 3-year planning horizon is solid. The company intends to expand its manufacturing capacity to support the increased demand and new technology ramp.

"The increased demand is broad-based. We are getting more orders and for higher volume from all of our customers for a variety of applications, including consumer products, enterprise networking chips, display drivers and storage controllers," stated Steve Della Rocchetta, executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Silterra. "The majority of the new bookings are for our 0.18-micron and smaller technologies. We believe the long awaited recovery has begun and feel optimistic that we will continue to gain market share going forward."

The company's customers include both leading IDM and fabless companies in North America, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Malaysia. Silterra also plans to expand its worldwide presence by opening new offices in Kuala Lumpur, Germany and Korea over the next several quarters.
