Forming Technologies Announces the Release of FormingSuite’s Process Planner

Burlington, ON, CANADA — December 3, 2010Forming Technologies Inc. (FTI) the industry’s leading developer of solutions for design, simulation, and costing of sheet metal components, today unveiled FormingSuite’s Process Planner. Process Planner, unlike traditional bill of material or historical based products on the market today, is a product geometry feature-based and process-content driven system to determine the process layout and the cost of a die.

 

Process Planner will help the end user create a process flow, predict the number of operations, the die load, press size, tonnage, energy, and selection, as well as the cost of the die” said Michael Gallagher, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, FTI. “Our new and unique feature-based recognition system will automatically identify the product’s stamping features and the severity index to reflect the complexity of the operations, and schedule or layout these operations for the end user. Because the system is associative and regenerative, the end user can quickly determine the cost of the product with the appropriate number of operations so they can then compare  between a progressive die and a transfer die to establish the most effective and efficient method of producing the part. We currently have three cost comparative methods for the end users to establish their criteria for cost for both in-house and outsourced components.”

 

Formingsuite’s Process Planner includes a customized spreadsheet that will allow the end user to establish the material cost, the die cost, the number of operations, and the process cost early on in the design/planning process. The Process Planner will also be utilized in batch scenarios and is incorporated in the Automatic Costing System (ACS) for whole car or whole car program analysis.
